Ribera del Guadiana Denominación de Origen (DO) takes its name from the River Guadiana. The region extends over two provinces, Cáceres in the north and Badajoz in the south. It is divided into six areas: Tierra de Barros, Cañamero, Montánchez, Ribera Baja, Ribera Alta and Matanegra.
Tierra de Barros
This is a key production area that extends from Mérida to the south western tip of Extremadura. The land is flat and is about 520 m above sea level. Tierra de Barros has a dry climate with average annual rainfall of around 350-400mm. Westerly winds bring extremely hot summers with them.
Our Tierra de Barros wine makers include Payva and Viña Santa Marina.
