This exceptional originate out of a 18 years old wine garden, growing up on solid clay soil with several lime fractions. in the excellent location of “Hainfelder Kirchenstück”. This is very important for the smooth taste and the enormous mouth feel. The clay is a very heavy soil, which has A lot of minerals as you can see in the extract of this wine. If the vines were planted on other, easier soils the wine wouldn’t have the structure as it has. So all of our Pinots are planted on heavier soils. The characteristics of this Grauburgunder are the intensive flavours of nuts and pears, present in the mouth with an incredible melt and a bunch of several flavours as well as an opulent, richness in body, excellent attendant of all kind of dishes. First of all we are very content with this wine but of course there’s always an improvement possible and we are all working hard and giving our best to produce this powerful and elegant wine. The vintage 2004 was a very good vintage; we had a long ripeness period so the grapes were totally aromatic and had a lot of sugar; that’s the reason why this wine is so powerful with all this nice flavours in it. Honestly there is no trend with this wine. We try every year to produce it in that way. It’s clear that there are differences between the vintages cause we are working with the nature. Peter Klein.
