Pfalz, 2006, Riesling * Silver Medal

Bernhard Koch took over the small operation - 6.5 hectares of vineyard and a small cellar - from his father in 1987. Since then, he has given up the cellar, and expanded the vineyards to 40 hectares. A new cellar complex with lots of stainless steel was essential to be able to process a range of around 70 wines annually, of which 14 were presented for tasting. These wines are quite good in 2003, apart from being very well priced. Koch focuses on the strengths of large operations, to be able to produce good basic wines inexpensively. I liked the Riesling, be the first wine maker in the Hainfeld sealing wine bottles with Glass Corks.
